I couldn’t tell you how many people I have seen in my gym who day in and day out train nothing but their upper body. I’ve asked a few guys at the gym why they never train legs and some of the common answers I get are “Man, I hate legs!”, “My legs are big enough”, “I’m on my feet 8 hours a day at work, they get enough exercise” and a handful of other excuses..Well, I’m here to tell you that there is no reason to neglect your legs or to rule out your legs as unimportant by telling you the Top # Reasons To Workout Your Legs…
Let’s compare working out your legs.. and working out your other body parts.. to squeezing fruit for juice. Your arms, shoulders and other small muscles that most guys pound out hundreds of reps in the gym on.. are grapes and your Leg’s are oranges, actually.. More like watermelons. When you workout any muscle on your body you are causing your body to release growth hormone (Squeezing juice from your body).. now your biceps and triceps are relatively small muscles.. (Grapes)..Compared to your enormous legs..(Watermelons)..Which support your entire upper body. So the number one reason you should be working out your legs is..
1. More Growth Hormone is released!
Growth hormone is a great hormone responsible for all kinds of good things which we’ll get into later in the post. But the number one reason to workout your legs is that when you get in a really great leg workout, you’re “Squeezing” the heck out of your legs and causing these huge muscles to release the most growth hormone possible.. More than your chest, shoulders, back, etc combined. So without this reason… none of the other reaosons would exist and you’ll understand why once you’re done reading this article.
2. Your entire body grows!
Some of you who do not workout your legs because “They’re already big enough”, but constantly complain because you want a big chest, back, shoulders, arms, etc.. SHOULD BE WORKING OUT YOUR LEGS! More growth hormone is released when you work your legs out and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what GROWTH HORMONE does. It makes you GROW. So obviously, the more growth hormone that is released the more you will grow and that’s everywhere folks, not just your legs.
3. Fat loss
Someone looking to cut up and lose fat will most definitely benefit from working out their legs regularly. Growth hormone plays a big role in aiding fat loss. The more growth hormone your body is releasing the less sensitive your body is to insulin, so when you workout a big muscle like legs that is known to release growth hormone you’re almost certain to lose fat
4. Proportional
I know you have seen this a hundred times. The guy who walks in the gym (Usually wearing sweat pants) with a HUGE chest and one day you see him wearing shorts and cannot believe that his legs are smaller than your kid brother’s. I know I’m not the only one to see this, we’ve all seen this guy do chest three times a week and maybe if we’re lucky we’ll see him doing some leg extensions once every couple of months. Well, I’m letting you know… you DONT WANT TO BE THAT GUY! And if you are that guy (We won’t tell) hopefully this article helps you see the light. A very important aspect of being a body builder is being well proportioned; in fact it can make or break you in a body building competition. I don’t compete and I am sure a lot of you don’t either, but even being just a regular fitness fanatic, it’s always best to be well proportioned.
5. Athletic Improvement
How many of you are involved in sports but do not workout your legs? If you’re too scared to raise your hand don’t worry, you’re not the only one, in high school I don’t remember seeing any of the football players work their legs out regularly however they’d still complain when they would lose games. Most sports involve a lot of power from your legs (Football, Basketball, Boxing, etc) Most of the energy used in sports is generated from the ground up via your legs. I would love to see a football game where the defensive line was forced to play on their knees, it just wouldn’t work. The same goes for basketball. There are quite a few guys in the NBA who are relatively short compared to the other skyscrapers in the league yet they can still slam dunk no problem. That is because these guys have great strength in their legs. In high school I remember there was a kid who wanted to improve his vertical so he worked with our weight training coach all year and by the end of summer when he was entering his senior year in high school he had improved his vertical 6 inches.
So there you have it the Top 5 reasons to workout your legs. There are most definitely more reasons where that came from, but those are the most important reasons to me to workout my legs. So don’t just skip leg day because you think it is unimportant, when in actuality you would suffer less if you skipped any other body part except your legs.
